^ I agree 100%. That's what I would like to know most. Why that design?

Why? Mis-placed priorities, self-congratulation, CASH, POWER, EGO ...

Should anyone be surprised that in 2013 a cult of Mammonism reigns at the foot of Wall Street?

The Rev. James Cooper’s development push was one of many sore points that led to a mass exodus of church board members two years ago.

... “The new condo tower is going to be the worst possible backdrop, and will be much taller than the current building,” said parishioner Jeremy Bates. “It may be an economically smart decision, but it’s symbolically wrong.”

... Former board member Tom Flexner noted in a December 2011 letter to fellow members of the vestry that Cooper wanted “to pursue ill-conceived projects in order to promote his own power.”

“I would specially note his almost obsessive desire to redevelop 68-74 Trinity Place into a sort of mega-monument — a facility more expensive and more expansive than any reasonable assessment of our needs would suggest is appropriate,” Flexner wrote.

In the midst of the controversy over his leadership, Cooper considered retiring, but only if he got perks, including a burial plot in the historic church graveyard. His compensation package in 2010 topped $1.3 million ....

Finally someone takes some pictures of this beauty. I wouldn't be so opposed to the demolition of this if the replacement wasn't such a piece of architectural garbage fit more for Battery Park City than for framing one of the most iconic backdrops on the planet.

As someone who lived in that area for many years, I always loved that building. I hope that these greedy p.r.i.c.k.s. are stopped.

Apparently, the schlongs at the Church forgot about the Big Guy's line: "Render unto Caeser that which is Caesar's."

God will punish these insensitive pr*cks for this.

And I don't even believe in God, but you don't destroy a stunning fruit of labour to erect a crass monument to your own greed and bad taste without incurring some sort of spiritual penalty.

    C***s.
