    Default Roseland Ballroom tower - 239 W 52 St / 242 W 53 St (between Broadway and 8th Ave)

So just like everything nowadays in NY, the building that the former Roseland Ballroom occupied is going vertical. The following images were taken from CetraRuddy's website.

Will this random new midtown midblock tower include some space at the bottom for what it replaced (a la Baccarat library)?

I actually don't mind the tower portion (but wish I could see the top) in the rendering,
...shall reserve judgment until the inevitable value engineered images appear.

    Can't say it's boring...

That's pretty interesting. I wonder if the facade is metal or concrete.

The Baccarat had to replace the library because that was part of the deal with the city by which the got the land. IIRC, the developer here just bought Roseland, no strings attached. I very much doubt there will be a theater/dance club in the base.

That's the question. The design I like but that will be a humongous amount of exposed concrete and all those rounded edges? Jees.

This in metal would look awesome.

The Cetra text in the first post indicates more shopping:

"The three-story base will accommodate luxury retail space ..."

Good luck with that on this mostly quiet side street, well removed from the crowds of both Times Square and Columbus Circle.

I can totally see a pharmacy chain like a CVS or Walgreens going in there.

I wonder when the crappy Manhattan Hotel on 52nd and 7th will come down. It occupies a huge piece of land.

I wonder how much of that exterior will be VE'd out and be cheapened with white Alucobond panels. How does a 59 storey building re-define the Midtown skyline?

This building sort of looks like the Aqua in Chicago to me.
