What ever happened to having solar panels up top? I know that they also intended to have luxury apartments up there too. It'd be great if they actually put the solar panels up.

Partly. he idea to have apartments was initially the first reason for the slow top. The company had difficulty getting a variance, then there was the issue of marketting the apartments. Citi felt it was to much trouble.
They liked the idea of the slopped top so it stayed as part of the design. By the way, Stubbins had a mix of ideas for the sloped to, conical tops, etc. He even had one where the slope started at a corner and moved migher to the opposite site- like the Smurfit Building in Chicago.
Then the idea for the solar panels came into the picture. It was not that they were too expensive, but the technology was not very good at the time. Even today, it take alot of cells to produce the smallest amount of energy. Then the issue of storing it, which was done with really bulky batteries back then, and is still an issue today came up for successive cloudy days.
I think, so I have read, that the idea for the panels is just waiting for the technology to get better, then the building will start to use it.

what is going on?, I think that new panels are being fitted or something coz loads of the roofing has been removed!!! That cant be for window cleanig equiptment.

I was in Citicorp, between interviews, on Thursday...there was no scaffolding around...dosn't that have to be in place, when there is *any* construction that could produce falling debris?

I was standing under it, earlier today. You can sctually see INTO the building...I'm wondering if they're gonna put up a big sign, or something...
