NYC Gets A Preview Of Yellow "Cab Of The Future"

If everything goes as they say it will, by 2014 when you hail a yellow cab in New York City...this is what you'll get!

Starting yesterday, November 1st, New Yorkers are getting a special sneak preview of the "taxi of the future".

The sort of abstract representation of the vehicle is on display at Madison Square Park across the street from the Flatiron Building.

    Some of the features:

    - Panoramic sunroof
    - Charging stations and USB ports
    - Anti-bacterial seats
    - Sliding doors

In 2014 the classic yellow cab of today might be a passing, flashing memory.

I can thank him for a lot of things, but lumping everything in one mans lap is not exactly fair....

I am sure he went to different dealerships, looked at the styles, and picked out this minivan out of hundreds to satisfy his own aesthetic leanings.

Again, it is easier to vilify an individual than a committee.

It is a shame, but when you try to make everything accessible to everyone, you end up crippling the able.

I know it sounds cruel, but the provisions necessary being applied to every single item is rather prohibitive and, as I said, restrictive for those that do not need it.

I do not know of any solution, however, that would provide what was needed without doing so.

How does this "cripple the able"??? Are you unable to enter or use these cabs?

You know what Loft, forget about it.

Nothing I say will change your mind.....

Suffice to say, when you try to accommodate everyone (and this goes for more than just the handicapped) you end up getting something that is invariably not the best for its intended primary purpose.

I have no problem with the new cabs. They may not be aesthetically pleasing but the seem to be functional, enviornmentally friendly, accessible, convenient and comfortable.
    I'll take it.

I know exactly what you're saying. The ADA tries to make everything accessible to everyone which is pure lunacy. Yes yes, god forbid I should ever end up in a wheelchair and be confronted with such obstacles, but such are the breaks. Society is paying a heavy price to accomodate everyone

    hmm...

maybe I am one of the rare people who thinks it is pretty cool when a bus stops, kneels, and the driver gets out to assist a handicapped person in a wheelchair. It tells me a lot about our values (or so I like to think)
