His success far outnumbers any blunders.

But this particular initiative will blight the streets of NYC for many years

City rolls out ‘no $cam’ pedicab rules
By AARON FEIS and LISA HAGEN

New, rider-friendly pedicab rules went into effect yesterday, requiring drivers across the city to clearly disclose their rates and time rides with city-sanctioned stopwatches.

Under the new law, pedicab drivers must prominently display their rates on their carriages. Rides must be timed using stopwatches calibrated by the Department of Consumer Affairs and riders must be charged by the minute.

There is no per-passenger surcharge or other fees.

Each operator is also required to carry iformation cards that serve as receipts and include the driver’s name, rate and contact information.

The rules, which are supported by the NYC Pedicab Owners Association, were put in effect after visitors complained that pedicab drivers charged as much as $400 for a 14-block ride and tacked on per-rider surcharges and phantom fees.

In Times Square and along Central Park, yesterday, pedicab operators rolled with the changes, with per-minute rates ranging from $2.50 to $4.75 a minute.

Pedicab driver Irving Ferreira, of Brooklyn, applauded the new price-posting and timer rules as a necessary precaution.

“There’s a few bad apples out there that were taking advantage of people . . . but yeah, they won’t be doing that anymore with the new prices.”

I disagree with the no "per person" surcharge.

Unlike cars, having to pedal 2 people around is more work than 1.

Great looking and so cushy inside, too. You could camp out in the back seat of a Checker.

Among other things. Looks like it just rolled off the assembly line.

The idiot taxi driver who crashed yesterday opposite Rock Center, severing the leg of a tourist eating a hot dog, was not licensed to drive a cab and the owner of the medallion let him do it.

Looking at Google in the area, it is hard to see how this guy could have possibly done something like that unless he was seriously screwed up. Although I do not agree with the commenters, the fact that he was let go when he pretty much did the equivalent of an aggravated assault on a woman is confusing. It is still an "accident", he was not mad at her, but if someone pisses you off in person and you just start swinging wildly, is it only an "accident" when you clock someone?

Judge voids Taxi of Tomorrow, says city and TLC overstepped its authority in mandating owners purchase the new vehicle

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Schlomo Hagler ruled the Taxi and Limousine Commission exceeded its authority when it wanted the entire fleet of yellow cabs to be replaced by the Nissan NV200.

Manhattan Supreme Court judge voided the Taxi of Tomorrow, saying the city overstepped its authority by mandating owners purchase the vehicle.

One of Mayor Bloomberg’s signature projects - the Taxi of Tomorrow - was voided by a Manhattan Supreme Court judge who said a city agency overstepped it’s legal authority. The plan envisions nearly the entire yellow taxi fleet being replaced with a single model - Nissan’s NV200 - that is chock-full of rider amenities like a see-through roof and passenger-to-rider intercom system.

But just weeks before the first NV200 cabs were set to start appearing on city streets, Justice Schlomo Hagler ruled the Taxi and Limousine Commission exceeded its authority in mandating owners purchase the so-called Taxi of Tomorrow.
The lawsuit was filed by the Greater New York Taxi Association, a group of fleet owners.
The TLC and city Law Department didn’t immediately comment on the ruling.
