I think the fact that Gehry's name is attached to this project is reason enough to stop panicking... at least until the the final renderings come out .

    Renderings? RENDERINGS?!!!

Everytime I click on this thread I hope the reason for the new post is renderings.

    I propose a rule:

NO NEW POSTS UNLESS THEY ARE RENDERINGS!

Yeah, not to worry. It will be magnificent.

Some people will like it simply because it's a "Gehry". Others will dislike it for the same reason. But mostly it will receive fanfare for the name attached. Personally (and I admittedly lean towards being a "dislike it no matter what" person even though I like some of Gehry's work) I think the design is taking so long because they are having a hard time reconciling Gehry's architectural flourishes with Ratner's cost-cutting. Not a good sign.

Hard to believe that the Chrysler was hated at one point. Hopefully we wont have to get "used" to this tower.

^ So was the Eiffel Tower. If it's aggressive, the new is often thought to be in bad taste.

After you get used to it, it becomes a touchstone.

Its our job to be ahead of the curve and recognise the good things, hopefully this will be a beauty. I have good anticipation for this based on his NYTimes proposal and astor place.

Gehry is a star because many of his buildings have garnered a lot of praise and are well-loved. People like his wavy forms. This being the case, how likely is that this building will be hated at first? Doesn't seem like a likely scenario.

Not all Gehry's buildings are "wavy" or "lovable". Look at Miss Brooklyn. Or that thing at MIT.

I'm hoping for the best here, but with Ratner and a credit crunch I'm fearing the worst.

Pretty likely, I'd guess. Miss Brooklyn doesn't even exist yet and it's already hated. Or that "thing" at MIT:

Any chance McSams/Kaufmans will be better received in the future?
