Yes
No
Purely speculation...55 storeys.
And a good, not great architect.

It's really great to see a nice sized tower going up downtown!
I just caught wind that the NIMBYs over here, in Brooklyn, were handing out Turkey-shape cookies, on Thanksgiving, with the phrase, "Ratner is a turkey," written on them, in icing.
...I don't get it. Does he gobble up land or something?
A view of the lot...

A quote from another article concerning Pace's failed bid for the lot...
It would have been an ideal location for expansion, being directly accross the street from the university.A third player, Pace University, is looking to expand by almost 400,000 square feet. The school is part of a group bidding to buy NYU Downtown Hospital's parking lot at 170 William St., to build a mixed-use development with dorms and classrooms.
It would be nice if the city provided zoning to allow for an additional 400,00 sf ft to the 818,000 square feet already allowed (a 50% increase).
That way the hospital could have its uses at the ground levels, or seperate entrance, then maybe 20 floors for Pace University, and on top of that the residential tower. Pace would jump on that faster than you could say "liberty bonds"...
NYguy, you a helecoptor pilot or something!?

Ratner built the 111 Worth Street nearby and on another large parcel. Hopefully this property wont suck, but here's precedent for you:

I wish people would stop choosing Kondylis for block-long buildings... him and them don't mix. (except possible at Riverplace)
Sort of a crappy lot - you won't be able to see the lower floors from almost anywhere.
I'm sure there were height restictions, the community wanted it to "blend", etc. I think this will be different. Have faith... HE'S TRYING TO BUILD THE NY TIMES TOWER.
