Yes
No
Also, with with windows that large (and rooms that small) the interiors are often a bit too bright inside; too bright for daytime TV or computer screen viewing, and too bright for sleeping in late. However, the unique issue here is with this 'undulating' facade, the fact that you can actually look into a neighboring apartment located 'not across' the street: but a window located in your very own building - not a common condition. http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showth...l=1#post399673

Uh-oh.
"The management is near-militant with what can and can't be used in windows. Black-out shades, for example, have to be from a specific manufacturer and in a specific shade of gray, as to keep the facades uniform, I suppose."

This is common for most condos. Keeps the value of the units up."The management is near-militant with what can and can't be used in windows. Black-out shades, for example, have to be from a specific manufacturer and in a specific shade of gray, as to keep the facades uniform, I suppose."
The units are rentals. If building management wants the window treatments uniform, why don't they just provide them, and be done with it.
In some places, I wish they would enforce it.
One 10 Third World anyone? http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2007/1...urgs_n_3rd.php
Have you considered relocating closer to an all women's school? Northhampton, MA perhaps? It's surrounded by them. And the Mt Holyoke campus was done by Olmsted in his excellent man-made-pastoral style. Women and architecture. A winning combo.
Back to Gehry for a second, though. From my window here, the waves are not as prominent as they could be. This is definitely a building that loses it's uniqueness from a distance. That's not a terrible thing, but it makes it different from good and bad buildings defined by their silhouettes (good-ESB, bad-Citicorp).
I'd like to be the warden of a Hollywood-style, women's prison, like the one in Chained Heat with Sybil Danning (i.e., lots of busty babes constantly showering together and soaping each other down).
Maybe if I win the lottery, I can set it up in 8 Spruce Street.

I wonder how your wife would feel about that?!
I'm harmless. I'm kind of like Phil Dunphy. If I weren't, I wouldn't be posting on WNY about starting a women's prison in 8 Spruce at 12:30 at night -- I'd be out.
