The plaza is almost done and the facade lighting scheme is working in some sections. It really looks like a space ship at night.

Are the ATMs available to all, or only ticket holders?

There's a Citibank pod in Atlantic Center terminal, street level, if that helps.

I walk by if I have time after court, and I like it a lot. MSG is a POS by contrast.

The New Arena Is a Whale. Or Is It a Tire? Perhaps a Turtle?

    By THE NEW YORK TIMES

    Randall Enos

Last week’s deceptively simple question “What does the brand-new Barclays Center look like?” unleashed a tsunami of tragicomic visions from the depths of the City Room readership’s collective unconscious.

A huge mountain of rusting automobile crankcases. — Gerry, New York City
Mega burger, medium well, pickle on the side. — Robert Wilkanowski, NYC
A rusty alligator skull with a pronounced underbite. — John G., Brooklyn
An airport 100 years after the apes have taken control of the earth. — Dan A., Jersey City
Smushed cockroach … guts glittering, abdomen stuck up in the air. — Jeremy Davis, Brooklyn
It looks like a toad sticking out its tongue. — Maritza, Richmond, VA

These people would probably prefer a cookie cutter arena that looks like a strip mall (ie that pile of crap mall across the street). I do think there are some flaws to the design but overall it's different and unique.

I used the new subway terminal the other day and it looks very cheap and ugly. At least the flooring is the same granite tiling as the rest of the terminal.

I agree, it could have easily looked like the mall across the street. Many arenas and stadiums in the country look like strip malls. I'm also glad that it's in Brooklyn. MSG has the name but the building has no character.

The inside of the Garden is vastly improved from what it was and is now on par with the best. The addition of the louvers on the 31st and 33rd street facades have somewhat improved the exterior, IMO. MSG's worst features are the hodgepodge 8th Ave facade and the giant dumb ads over the glass escalator pods.

The inside of the Garden has improved somewhat, but still has all kinds of limitations compared to newer arenas. And MSG overall is still an obsolete dump that's headed for the wrecking ball one day. Hopefully competition from Barclays Center will hasten that day.

Barclays absolutely kills the Garden. Here's hoping the Dolans wise up, sell the site, and build anew.
