Why would Gregg P care about what's happening in the commieblock factory where the crap he designed is being built? When he was done designing this, he moved on to the next project. No need to concern himself with how this actually comes together on the site.

SHoP does design-build projects; they take part in the construction process as well - http://www.shop-construction.com

Most architecture firm do design only, and the 'project delivery' method is typically design-bid-build: shoP does Design-Build.

However, you raise a good point: I often wonder if architects in general are really in to 'design' only - not much interested in the process and craft of how architecture is actually 'built'.

Looks modular. Shame it doesn't have the same rusty patina as the stadium. They look a little LEGO without the precision.

Arena’s Meditation Room Raises Its Own Existential Questions

Construction has barely begun on the 2,250 promised affordable housing units. Just one of the 15 proposed towers has even started to take root. The leafy plazas remain mere sketches on paper.

Except for the glittering Barclays Center, which opened in 2012, the giant Atlantic Yards project has moved at a glacial pace, to the frustration of many in Brooklyn. But now, those impatient souls can search for solace in the project’s latest amenity: a locked, windowless, cinder-block room tucked near the arena’s first aid office and a sushi stand.

I like the the black portion, it's a shame the entire tower wasn't just out of that. I'll withhold judgement on the other two colors as the tower rises.

Please no one show pictures of these multicolor Lego blocks to Gene Kaufman. He might get inspiration and half of the city will end up looking like this.

What is the life expectancy of weather sealing for that tacked on modular facade?

My Dad used to work at an actual Commieblock factory in his youth, in the USSR, calibrating machinery for production of similar prefab panels. To this day, panel construction is frowned upon all across the former USSR, and apartments in panel buildings sell cheaper than their concrete/glass/brick counterparts (much of Russia continues to use brick for residential highrise facades).

Lo and behold, this "glorious future" has arrived at Atlantic Yards!

some of the least offensive Soviet commieblock architecture was found in the Baltic republics, where it was a bit more Scandinavian and a bit less Russian. Maybe the suburban Tallinn look is what Gregg P was going for?

'Play slide show' for more pre-views of Greg P's pre-fabs...... My only complaint is that the deep recessed windows as presented in the original design renderings: are now, as built, flat multi-colored panels that seem to be intended to give the visual - affect - of deep recessed windows. See first photo in slide show for visual representation of where Mr. P went wrong.LOL

Its possible that that the black framing for the windows will be applied afterwards to hide any visble bolts or joints.
