I saw the last design for the Bush Tower addition. Alone, it was okay, but it didn't really fit well aesthetically between the Bush Tower or Knickerbocker. It was tall - maybe even too tall. That portion of the project is being tinkered with, but the renovation of the historic Knickerbocker is the primary focus.

    Isn't it only 19 stories?

    Is it a bland box?

My recollection is a taller building and certainly a box given the site. "Bland" I don't know. I recall it was glass curtain wall but it was only conceptual, so anthing could change.

Thanks. Notwithstanding the site, it could have a curved facade or a nice crown, etc. and be something other than a lame box.

The new Tower I was talking about was 42-stories. Quite nice actually.

Just as an FYI - the Knickerbocker Hotel (and Bush Tower addition) project is dead.

But 3 days ago you said this:

... the renovation of the historic Knickerbocker is the primary focus
So the renovation is for what purpose if not a 5 Star Hotel ???

This is odd. The Dubai group is not proceeding with a hotel at all?

When I went down to ask about the new tower, I was told it was dead. I'm not embedded in the grapevine yet. I help them win jobs - killing them is outside my payscale.

I heading out of town tomorrow. I'll sort it out in a couple of weeks (maybe post the rendering of what could've been.)

    My apologies for appearing Bush.

The website for the Saudi company that bought the Knickerbocker -- Istithmar -- continues to show this:
    6 Times Square (Knickerbocker)

In June 2006, The 6 Times square, NY, USA, was acquired by Istithmar with a plan to convert it into a 5-star hotel.
A nice old picture of the Knickerbocker from the Wikipedia (with SPIRES!!!):

Okay, this is the official update on the Knickerbocker project (including Bush Tower addition.)

Completed through design development phase. Project put on hold in July pending a possible sale of the property.

    100% accurate.

    Project is still on hold.

This is older rendering. It has since changed.

With words like Armani and Dubai being thrown around that design is rather disappointing. Must everything look like the Platinum these days? Hopefully the new design is more exciting.

I do like the look of the building in the background though, hopefully that's the reclading of 1095 Avenue of Americas, its vertical emphasis and contrasting of materials is vastly superior to whats currently there.
