I mean, Bush tower itself is attractive, and I like the new green glass for the Metlife (nee Verizon, etc etc) building. Anyway, I'm not so sure that the neighbors are THAT beautiful. I mean, BoA is great but 4 TS? 7TS? meh. I dunno. In any event, if this comes out ok below the setback, it'll be a major victory, and I must admit, I really like the nifty glass cube retail that's coming with it. I guess my biggest concern is that it gets filled, considering the retail in that very green metlife building has been a wasteland since the popup NFL store left.

Didn't know where to post this. This might not be the appropriate place, but here goes:

Vacants go verdant: Empty Bushwick lots will become parks

    By Nathan Tempey
    for The Brooklyn Paper

Someone’s putting the bush back in Bushwick.

The neighborhood named by Dutch settlers for its plentiful woods is better known today for noisy elevated train lines and burgeoning bar scene, but residents hope the neighborhood will once again live up to its name when a planned park transforms a local eyesore into an urban oasis.

The city will convert a swath of blighted properties at the busy intersection of Bushwick Avenue and Beaver Street into a green space as soon the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, which owns the vacant lots and three connected, graffiti-coated garages, razes the buildings and clears trash from the site.

It would go in a thread about Brooklyn.

The whole point was to arouse LL into saying something funny about a garden going in at Bushwick Ave & Beaver St.

Anyway, the Real Deal has a review of this tower where they quote NY YIMBY. Strangely the review says "Poon’s past work in the neighborhood includes the Wingate Hotel at 235 West 35th Street and the Hampton Inn Manhattan-Soho at 54 Watts Street." Although I don't think 54 Watts St and 136 W 42nd St are in the same neighborhood.

Good one! I never can resist a good bush joke. If the movie, "Porky's," hadn't already been made, I would have made it. If I live to be 100, I will never lose my love for adolescent humor!

I was actually pleased to read that the "Western Wall," will be covered in LED lights. I thought that bilboards would be hung on the west side, which would have looked truly Shi.tty.

I can't figure out anymore what this one is going to look like. Looking at the site today, it looks like it's nearly topping out with multiple setbacks above the 25th (?) floor.

Anybody have a render showing what it will look like? Digging through Poon I don't find it.

Bummer that it's taller than Bush.

If that's going to be a video screen on the west facade, rather than a billboard, then (as shitty as this is), it's still Poon's opus magnum.

Watching 42nd Street on TCM now

    Bush Tower
    is 432'

According to the DOB New Building application this Poon thing is 37 stories, 405'

But that doesn't include the stack of mechanicals up top.

The wizards at City Planning allowed zoning variances.

Another incidence of what seems to an entirely arbitrary and capricious granting of a zoning variance: must be a Bloomberg 'favored' developer.

    Pardon the entirely 'unfounded' allegation….LOL

    Cool axonometric diagrams though: thanks.

It's too bad the Bush Tower was built with that party wall. Otherwise notthing this horrible would have been allowed to rise against it...without a big fight.
