Phaidon has re-issued a (new) edition of "Aftermath: World Trade Center Archive"
An archive of photos by Joel Meyerowitz
Marking the 10th anniversary of 9/11, a commemorative edition of the book Aftermath: World Trade Center Archive, by the American photographer Joel Meyerowitz, is being published with the support of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
Charting the monumental recovery effort in the weeks and months after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Meyerowitz's 400 photographs are interspersed with fascinating stories relayed in his own words, as the only professional photographer granted untethered access to ground zero.
Meyerowitz pays tribute to the tireless determination of the people who assisted in the recovery process, including the construction workers, firefighters, chaplains and crane operators and all the volunteers.
Joel Meyerowitz was at the 9/11 Memorial Preview Site on Vesey Street last night, talking about the 9 months he spent documenting the aftermath following 9/11, and related some funny and very moving stories of those days.
The National 9/11 Memorial is selling the mammoth book for $39.95 (reduced for wider access & distribution) ...
The 349-page book, which will be published by Phaidon Press, is the only existing photographic record of the monumental recovery effort in the weeks and months after the September 11, 2001 attacks. The publication features 400 color photographs from the World Trade Center site, where Meyerowitz was the only professional photographer granted untethered access to ground zero in the months following the attacks.
The new edition has a different cover from the original, which displayed a wide shot of the WTC site. The new cover shows a portrait of volunteer worker emerging from the pile.
