This is only during construction, yeah? I mean, I should hope it doesn't work like this once there are streets and sidewalks etc. throughout the site.

Living at 90 West could be a new kind of trial for the next couple of years. The main residential entrance is along West Street, at mid-building next to the WTC retail and where folks will be exiting the site and hitting the street grid. Getting a taxi there should really be fun.

They said that it was only for 9/11, and immediately after that the memorial would be shut back down until construction is complete, so I think the residents of 90 West will survive one day.

The green area of the memorial on the map I posted will be open to the public on 09/12/2011. It will remain open.

No kidding. On top of all of the noise, now they have to deal with people shuffling through for at least a year.

90 West is such a nice building, and while the terribly named "World Center Hotel" butchered the building it is located in and blocks some of 90 West, it does offer some nice views of the details near the top of 90 West Street.

And while we are on the topic of 90 West, does anyone know if the roof is going to get the green patina it had prior to 9/11, or if they replaced it with some kind of non-oxidizing copper look-alike?

The brother of a 9/11 victim talks about the sphere and memorial in general.

Not sure how I feel about this. (And I know many of you despise Fox News. But, that's not the point. Focus on what's said - not the news outlet.)

When a report begins with total misinformation (the irate blonde reports: "Today, tickets GO ON SALE for the new 9/11 Memorial ..."). You can't expect much after that bad start.

Tickets to the Memorial did become available on the web today, but they are NOT "for sale."

As the Memorial website says: Visitor passes are free ...

Later on Michael Burke, in discussing the presentation of the names on the Memorial and particularly the name of his brother Captain William Francis Burke, Jr. of Engine 21, remarks that the designers refused to include "Captain" (or any other designations of rank or profession for any of those lost) because "The Memorial is designed ... it is not intended to tell the story of 9/11, it is not supposed to remind us of what happened here, this is why it was chosen."

Given what we now see at the site I don't buy that this Memorial will not remind visitors of that day.

Also, if you look at the September 11 Memorial website where NAMES are found and searchable,
THIS is what is found for William Francis Burke, Jr.:

Engine 21 is incised directly next to Burke's name on the parapet at the SW corner of the south pool and all of his pertinent info is available for viewing, and can be searched by NAME, COMPANY, OR OTHER AFFILIATION. As the website says:

This design allows the names of family, friends, and colleagues to be together, as they lived and died. The requested adjacencies reflected on the Memorial make it unique from any other in existence.

^ That's a nice website. Was on it a lot today. Got my visitors passes for the first week the plaza opens... I'm really looking forward to being able to step foot on that ground after so many years of following it being brought back to life.

Also ... The faux "reporter" and her guest also mis-state the fact about Father Mychal Judge. They both agree (min ~ 2:45) that "there will be no priest reference there" yet if you look at the Memorial website it shows the image on the parapet and directly next to the name of Mychal F. Judge is the word "CHAPLAIN" ...

Why do the folks at Fox insist on reporting complete BS?

The title of the video at Fox is:

Too Politically Correct at National 9/11 Memorial?

    Perhaps it should read:

Too Factually Incorrect to be Listened To

^^^ Well, I understand. I just posted the link since it caught my eye, and it was somewhat pertinent to the Memorial. I'm usually okay with Fox, but they aren't necessarily great at everything...

Sorry if I wasted 4 minutes of your life.

I don't know what sort of schedules everyone else here is looking to keep, but I have reservations for 5pm on 9/12 with my wife if anyone else is going then.
