Perhaps the Port Authority might consider building a new bridge...somewhere in the area. Bridges are cash cows for decades if not forever. The bridge pays for itself, its upkeep, and subsidizes a ton of commuter transit choices. I'd start with the Rye Oyster Bay bridge, and terminate the bridge at each end with tunnels to avoid any disruption to the locals.

Long Island Sound is well outside the PA domain. All the bridges in the area - Whitestone, Throggs Neck, etc - are maintained by the MTA.

The only NY crossings maintained by the PA are GWB, Outerbridge, Bayonne, Lincoln and Holland Tunnels (I'm probably forgetting one). The connect to NJ, the other half of the bistate agency.

Indeed! They also run the Goethals bridge. They could build themselves that freight tunnel under the harbor that's been in plans for years. That might generate some serious cash flow.

The renderings in that doc give a very good impression of how trees along West Street will buffer and hide the Memorial Vent Structures.

Also describes and shows how they are re-configuring the frontage along the World Financial Center. Seems the dig-out now going on out front will eventually accommodate a new retaining wall and expanded walkway with trees and plantings on the west side of 9A / West Street.

Come 2014 - 2015 it should be in shape and looking good.

I've noticed, in more recent renderings, the center void hasn't been lit... It still looks good, though.

The pools look even more spectacular and glamorous at night, even in spite of the rain and wet cam lense!

And it's just in the last couple of hours that they've turned on the perimeter lights along the temporary fencing.

methinks this space could become a very very popular late night spot for experimental types
(but only advisable for those who don't get totally freaked out by intense security)

The pool lights are still on, the tridents looked great lit up. A ton of security (NYPD) in place around the site, the media circus should be arriving soon and setting up shop.
