Not so good, really. This building will be as sparsely populated as the Meier towers on the Hudson. Most occupants will be singles or couples who also own places in St. Tropez, Dubai, London, Carmel, Palm Beach and Patagonia. They have to live in those some of the time too, so the chances of finding them home on South Street are pretty slim. Even if you got the building to collapse low down near the bottom, with all the cubes tumbling down, you'd only bag about a dozen people at most, except if there was a cocktail party. You'd have to know people's cocktail party schedule. Or you'd have to settle for a body count you can get in any pizzeria in Tel Aviv.

Now the Statue of Liberty is another thing, especially when it's open and full of people. When I went up last there were maybe 1500 people standing on the spiral stair working their way up one step at a time, and nowhere to go if someone yelled "fire!": not up and not down. Fifteen hundred sitting ducks: a veritable tower of humanity.

What the hell are we talking about?!

I propose we mandate the hire of Costas Kondylis as architect of all new Manhattan towers so we won't run the risk of drawing any unneeded attention to our new skyscrapers through design excellence.

It's not design excellence they're after, it's body counts.

Doesn't hurt to have the bodies in a building with symbolic weight.

Architecture has nothing to do with it.

I guess you could install important bureaux in Kondylis buildings --like maybe the CIA or the World Bank.

I know. I was being sarcastic as a response to vc10's post.

I thought we were trying to discourage them, not encourage them ...

    I know. So was I.

Irony sometimes gets lost on these forums, but I just hate using emoticons.
