Their recently completed Gansevoort Hotel has that distinctive curved "crown" that you are talking bout.

    Hotel, run down:

Quite a number of large hotels in planning. Any information?

Yea, I've been wondering about West Side Plaza, and the ones on 34th and 35th street. The hotel at 54th will be a decent sized project. Many of the rest are posted in the forums, conversions, or nothing special.

With the boom in tourism I am not surprised in the many planned hotels.

Finally, some rooms might actually be added. A lot of hotels seem to be converted to residential these days.

NYC needs many more rooms, so prices won't be so crazy. That is key to tourism and business travel. We have about 1/2 the rooms of Vegas, and I think we even have about 10K less than Chicago. Friggin' Chicago??? C'mon.

Build some more hotels in DT BK and LIC, and other convenient outer borough areas. That would be great all around.

    Downtown

Hilton Garden Inn: 6th Ave & York St, just north of Tribeca Park where 6th Ave crosses W Broadway. Under construction, but nothing yet above ground.

Robert DeNiro: Parking lot on Greenwich & N Moore Sts. 96 ft. Recently got approval from LPC. Needs zoning variance (12 ft extra height I think) from BSA. Construction start expected this spring.

Economy Hotel: Church & Duane Sts. Appears to be going nowhere. Narrow lot. Lousy spot for a hotel, but I would have said the same for the Cosmopolitan on W Broadway & Chambers S - the renovated flophouse Bond Hotel. It seems to be doing well.

Is this the empty lot across the street from the Tweed Courthouse?

No, that lot is on Chambers & Elk Sts, just west of Surrogates Court.

The Economy Hotel site is on the west side of Church St. There are several "half lots" in the area, remnants of buildings that were razed when Church St was widened and 6th Ave cut through the Village. The buildings that now line the west side of Church St were not meant to be corner buildings, and the shorn-off look makes the street look crappy.

A good example is the landmarked Cary Building, now on the NW corner of Church & Chambers.

    DEAL FOR STANHOPE IS CLOSED

    By LOIS WEISS

January 14, 2005 -- Gary Barnett of Intell Management has completed his purchase of the Stanhope Hotel on Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Barnett purchased the operating lease on the hotel from the Pritzker family's Hyatt Hotels.

A spokesperson did not return calls and no price was disclosed. The landmark hotel is on land owned by the Goldman family.

To allow a luxury co-op with condo rules to be created, the developer cut deals with Goldman Properties' brother/sister team, Allan and Jane Goldman.

As part of a package deal, the siblings are also working with Barnett to develop a new luxury tower on the Goldman Properties' land assemblage along the blockfront of Lexington Avenue from 85th to 86th streets. This is currently a series of small, mixed-use properties.

In that situation, the retail strip is likely ending up in Goldman hands with an Intell-developed residential condominium above.

"The deals are not simple, it's really complicated," said one real-estate source.

No one returned calls for comment.
