And, from the Brooklyn Bridge - it pokes up in the skyline - marking Astor Place. There are a number of new buildings east of Broadway- not necessarily huge, that are rising above the old Lower East Side skyline line. Very exciting

Everyone is not as happy with this building as you guys. From Curbed:
"i got my first glimpse of the glass on the new astor place building. it's HIDEOUS! it's shiny blue. the whole building reminds me to all those new condo developments on brickell ave in miami. that place gets uglier by the day."

    Cool article: "Condo Couture
Will architect names like Gwathmey and Gehry sell apartments like Gucci and Prada sell clothes? Charles Gwathmey’s fashion-forward glass tower at Astor Place is at the center of a booming new building trend. "

So far, I like it, but I haven't seen the glass in person.

At least it's not cheap-o fake brick.

Was by the site this weekend. Building looks good and is visible from quite far away. And it seems like not only humans are interested in this construction, as seen on the picture

Don't worry. They won't stay long. Too expensive!

    Is this building topped out?

Wow! It's about time there were some more artisticly designed buildings. What a wonderful addition to the area.

    V. nice pics as usual NY@Knight 8)

It's looking more like something you'd find in Houston or Dallas (not a bad thing). So bit of a nice little surprize package for NYC.

Looks like there may be balconies to access on the 4 floors, after the tower's first setback.

Refer back to the pics that NYatKNIGHT posted on 2nd Dec. in regard to this.
