It would be nice if the city bought those crappy Interstate meat buildings and made a park next to the Whitney.

The city already owns that site. Two years ago it negotiated an extended lease with the meat co-op.

Plus there's already a 'park' one flight up.

I'm not sure I "get" this building yet. I'm holding out for both a finished facade as well as the street cleared out from the crane and such.

It's turning out a little better than I expected.

The brilliant thing about Piano's design here is how it's seen from the street to the east, especially as you approach it from the middle of the Meat Packing District along Gansevoort Street. The upper floors recede and slope away from the street, so by the time you hit the corner of Washington and Gansevoort the upper floors are barely visible. Even directly across the street on Gansevoort the building, while massive, is not overly imposing. And once the big street level plaza is in, that will offer an amazing public space.

Just an aside, but the landscaping along the West Side Highway looks like crap. They design this elaborate stuff and then don't set aside any $ for maintenance.

Well, that final facade material is looking nice. This won't be bad, I don't think, but it doesn't feel iconic to me. Maybe it will just take time.
