    Default ThreeTen East 53 - 310 East 53rd Street - UES - Condo - by SLCE

Excavation is occurring for a new tower on the east side of Second Ave. in the 50's. The site is a few streets south of the Milan, which is also rising on the east side of Second.

    Does anyone have any info?

It's a boring dark glass tower.

It's interesting that it's glass rather than brick, which is much more common for residential buildings. As you know, the Milan condo, which is under construction, a few streets north of this one, has a shiny glass facade also.

It appears that the empty buildings with closed-off windows across the street from 300 E. 53rd will also be torn down soon and replaced by a new tower.

I personally like glass buildings over brick, just a matter of taste I suppose, but not dark brick like Trump's. Glass like Bloomberg.

I remember this building. Limited sawtooth corners. I thought it was cancelled.

Where did you hear that news from? I've been wondering why it hasn't risen yet. I remember Macklowe demolished the buildings at the site and even got a construction loan. I've seen it listed as unbuilt on skyscrapers.com and it's not on the Macklowe residential web site anymore so I suppose your right.

    That's a glass facade? I can't tell.

It appears that another one will rise across the street from this one. There's a group of townhouses that are completely emptied and shuttered-up and waiting to be torn down. It's a shame though because with some fresh paint, these could be restored nicely. They have all of their moldings and cornices and look nice. By contrast, there are some horrific, white brick monstrosities on Second that should be razed ASAP!

Vaguely reminiscent of the new Meier tower on the Westside.

I like the colors they're developing this one in... much better than the dark Milan just 2 blocks north.
