Thread: Favorite Interiors?

    Default Favorite Interiors?

The bulk of our attention is paid to the skyscraper exteriors, but does anyone have any favorite interiors? (I hope this thread isn't off-topic in this forum.) A lot of lobbies look the same and are less remarkable than exteriors but some stand out in my mind.

Mine has always been the Crystler Building. I like to be greeted with a lobby with lots of color which is a nice contrast for people coming in from the the washed-out "gray" of the city streets. In fact, it's probably safe to the more a lobby contrasts with the streets outside the better. These aren't my own pictures (it's hard to capture the feel of an interior without multiple wide-angle lense shots, that's probably why I can't find many interior pics on the internet). If anyone has any favorites interiors, I'd love to see them.

I viewed the interiors, on this new blog today: raw and minimalist - to say the least. pun intended

    666 5th Avenue - Lobby

    Waterfall Wall, Noguchi, 1957

This one is harder to find than it used to be since they re-configured the lobby at 666 a few years back.

But you can get in and see it from both 52nd & 53rd St. entrances.

And don't miss the ceiling ...

And the Equitable Center Lobby on 7th Ave. -- just for the sheer joy of seeing a Lichenstein this large:

It's been 15 years since I've seen the Trump Tower waterfalls working which is a shame because I love its atrium. It's always bone dry whenever I go in there. I wonder if the moisture was damaging the interior.

Tudor City sure looks good from the Ford Foundation. I bet Tudor City has some fabulous low-key interiors.
