Seriously, Lofter, do you (or does anyone) know if the developer plans to cover the floor plates? I really can't think of a single glass and aluminum building in which they're exposed. The people who bought these apartments will really be taking a big one up the a.ss if these plates are not covered. It will really look like a huge plie of crap.

There is still some detail work to be installed around the windows on the base of the building, but it looks as if the facade on the upper floors are pretty much installed. So unless they are going to go back and do this later then I think this Piece of S*** is what we get.

I walked by the fancy new building on the north side of 57th between 2nd and 3rd and just noticed that it also has exposed floor plates and a glass facade. It's quite odd.

I know! Isn't is bizarre? It's more than exposed floorplates -- the entire Eastern side of the building is bare concrete. It looks awful with the nice blue/green glass on the other side.

I hope they plan on fixing it and covering it over with glass before the building is done.

If not, this building has just become a huge disappointment for me. It looks like crap from the East and the contrast between the concrete and the glass is truly revolting.

What building are you talking about?

Sounds similar to 325 5th (I know this isn't it)....glass, but exposed floor plates, and a seemingly blank concrete wall on the north side. It really is atrocious. (Like 1600 broadway)

The design of the sign was poorly done. Should not be jutting out like that. Should be rounded and wrap-around like the Nasdaq sign on Conde Nast.

It looks like a miniature neo-cubist Crowne Plaza Hotel with less concrete.

In this photo, at that angle, in that sort of half-light with the details melted away, it looks magnificent. Like a japanese cartoon monster unfolding into something mean.

But I think in the light... when you realize those are balconies squeezed in there, butting up against that sign, it´s going to look really wierd.

In it´s place I keep imagining the Studebaker as a beautiful hotel... with it´s brick & limestone and great copper cornice restored....
