don't they need a crane to finish the building? Also wondering what sort of financial pain the developers will be face (fines, lawsuits, delayed occupation)

They're replacing the damaged crane. The tower is fine. Just the crane needs a mulligan.

Yes, probably all three: fines, lawsuits and delayed occupation. Given the astronomical value - such as 80 million foe one apartment - of this project, in the grand scheme of things this crane issue will amount to nothing more than a 'minor' set-back on this development.

P.S. no 'architectural' pun intended on the set-back term. LOL

Hey, this job is big - they are going to need more than 'a Mulligan'. Have them also send an O'Connell and a Finnegan to help out up there.........heehee

    Pardon the levity!

Nah, it's going down with the derrick. The whole crane will come off, including the house, cab, table etc.

Crane is still up, but the glass doesn't seem to have paused in its ascent.

This feels very tall (I mean, it is pretty tall, right?). 225 is going to be terrifying.

Agreed. With a great design, this will be quite the view.

It would be nice if 220 CPS is in the 900 foot range too.

Pretty sure the plans already filed for 220 where in the 500 foot range. That doesn't mean they won't change, but air rights are really quite hard to come by. Let's see here 41 Stories, and 576 ft. Because the plans are already approved, I find it hard to believe anyone is going to pay to get new plans approved unless something really interesting has happened.

With Extell leasing the garage, is even possible to start the project? It might not start for awhile-so the design could change. It was proposed to be 507' at first.
But I don't see the point to going taller since it already fronts Central Park. Maybe to provide more single floor units and to spite Extell by blocking as many views as possible?

At such a late point in construction, do they even need a new tower crane, or will the derrick alone suffice?

I think the problem would be with the steel for the second-to-last setback. Since none of it is up yet, it likely presents the biggest challenge (as it appears all of the cooling units ARE installed on the roof, as well as all the major steel for the roof curve.

If Stern is doing 220 CPS, I hope he does an homage to the Sherry Netherland and/or the Pierre.
