    That demarcation looks right.

From down below on a grey and drizzly day ...

    Dyer + W 41st:

The corner at 42nd / Dyer is cantilevering over the old bit of brick that's been there for years:

That corner a few years back as seen at Bridge And Tunnel Club website:

That stack of bricks is from the old entry to the Lincoln Tunnel, seen here in 1940 (Dyer at W 41st looking north):

And similar brickage with sign at Dyer + W 36th:

Back to the new project -- Mid-block along 42nd they're putting up a mass of concrete:

    From Tenth Avenue:

    Tenth + W 41st:

    Along W 41st:

Assuming that the crap building revealed on Sotawall is what's being built (despite Related's embarrassed denials), it's still better than this slummy, third-world corner.

It looks like the base of the building is finished and the next floor will be the first of the tower. It should really take off now.

Based on what we're now seeing (a cantilevered corner at Dyer / 42nd & an expanse of concrete rising above the 1st Floor at mid-block along 42nd) it seems that the massing shown in this render is what we're getting:

    Agreed.
Plus, I see the outline of that protruding section on the near side of the rendering.

I wonder why the a_holes at Related vehemently denied that this POS is, indeed, what they're building. Are they that embarrassed by their own greed?

What's happening with this rank slum? Is it simply getting refurbished? The article is unclear. It's sad that NY doesn't have higher ambitions.

I saw that too, and also found it perplexing. I just said this about the dung-ball next to the Verizon Building on 6th/42nd, but I think it's worth saying about this area too:

Rather than destroy the Garment and Flower Districts, which have beautiful, classic Gotham architecture and look to be steadily disappearing underneath Sam Chang's nightmarish fantasies, the office space and hotels need to be going up in locations like this. WTF?!

I could not agree with you more. It's a real kick in the balls to see those beautiful little buildings ruined when vast amounts of sh..it exist which can be redeveloped.

Hotel Developer Recasts Himself As an Angel for Old Synagogues

    NY TIMES
    August 26, 2001

Sam Domb, a small man with a gray pompadour and monogrammed shirt cuffs, has a reputation. He is used to it.

He is a hotel developer who owns the Lucerne and Belvedere Hotels, among others, and is part owner of the Woolworth Building and some of the city's single-room-occupancy residences. (He was once required to compensate tenants forced out of an S.R.O. that he was converting into a hotel.)

He is also a consummate political fund-raiser, having raised tens of thousands of dollars for Mayor Giuliani's past campaigns. Other friends include Steven Spielberg, Bill Clinton and Ariel Sharon.

He won't reveal his age. He is a Holocaust survivor. But last week, he sat in the white limousine of the Travel Inn, another of his hotels, and explained his latest incarnation: Sam Domb, synagogue angel ...
If you look HERE you'll see that Sam Domb is listed as:

Executive Director • Fico Realty Inc • Budget & Economy Motels

The address for Fico is 515 West 42nd, the same address as the DB Hotels Travel Inn across the street.

At that same website Richard Born is listed as "Treasurer" of Fico.

Thanks for the info, Lofter. Sadly, this is a real POS. Hopefully, it will be redeveloped in the future.

Per a Lease seen at DOF (executed October 1, 2009), Richard Born as the Landlord / Lessor (West 42nd Street Developers, LL) has leased the property at 515 West 41st (aka 508-512 West 42nd) until 2058 to Tenant / Lessee Ian Reisner, a NYC hotel developer as "42nd Street Holdings, LLC" (Parkview Developers / IR Holdings):

    MEMORANDUM OF LEASE

Reisner has dibs on first refusal.

Reisner is one of the investors / developers of a condo development at 505 West 47th

Reisner is also involved in sales of the Trump Grande Condos in Miami Beach (and can be reached at a telephone number seen on the bottom of that webpage).

    From the LEASE ...

They've been replacing the windows and redoing the rooms. There are worklights on inside at times. Interestingly a couple of months ago I saw a fleet of bike rickshaws in there, (ground floor) They were parking them there overnight. Now seem to be gone...

    Thanks.

I wonder who owns the empty lot next to this POS.
