I was under the impression that the Signature / Gehry part of the building was at the east side near Dyer Avenue, but with the new Signature signage on the scaffolding at the base of the hotel block closer to Tenth -- along with what seems to be fully enclosed / windowless pod-facaded areas at the west end -- I'm wondering if the theaters will go in on that side.

At one point it was said that the theatre complex would take the entire second floor...

The "bones" of the Signature theatre's new space are already visible on three low floors of the tower according to the NY Times. The company will have 50 feet of facade leading to a second floor lobby. It sounds like the new theatres will be made of a lot of plywood..... Hmmm.

    Today at CURBED:

Frank Gehry's New Hell's Kitchen Theaters Revealed

    And at the NY TIMES:

New Signature Theater, Close to the Old

... the space where the Signature has ended up instead — in the base of a residential high rise now being built on West 42nd Street — has retained some of the key elements of the original project: three theaters of varying sizes; an open lobby with a cafe and a bookstore; and the prominent Mr. Gehry as designer.

Perhaps most important, the project is budgeted at a mere $60 million and is actually under construction, in contrast to the planned arts center at the World Trade Center site, which increasingly seems like a pipe dream. The bones of the new Signature are already visible on three low floors of the tower, which was designed by the Miami firm Arquitectonica and is being constructed by Related Companies.

The “fit-out” of the interiors is scheduled to begin in August, and the Signature plans to start its first season in the new space in January 2012. The theater company says it has raised $41 million of the project’s cost. (That includes $25 million from the city.)

TWT has pretty nice glass as I recall. Therefore, that's good news.

One Trump World it may pass, but on this monster, it will be overwhelming in my opinion.

It would have been nice to see something unique here, but at least it's not a box per se. The glass should be nice.

This building is massive. This is why nimby's fear new skyscrapers.

It's a shame that a narrower, taller building was not constructed. Then again, that would cost money, and Ross is cheap.

Kent Ave area in Brooklyn is a good example, lots more traffic and people than two years ago. Only difference is this area was more industrial not residential before but the change is stunning and they're not done.

Yea, and when the other 2 dozen 40 story towers are built along the waterfront, it'll just be huge wall.

Despite how cookie-cutter most of the new buildings on 42nd Street are, I'm glad to see there are some interesting ground floor uses. And its definitely the most impressive E-W canyon in the city. No other street on the grid has skyscrapers from end to end.

Don't forget the 600 / 800 / 1,000 footers that will be going on the blocks to the south.

This is just the beginning of the transformation of the West Side that will take place over the next 25 years.

All the more reason they need to build the station now for the 7 Line at 41st / Tenth.
