oops. Thought it was the opposite corner (Tenth & 42nd)

So many changes here on Dyer & 41st I didn't recognize where it was

Will the MTA clad this in something more interesting than the blehh pre-cast stuff that MiMA used?

I thought MiMA used the bland pre-cast stuff to match with what the MTA was building...

It's sad that this thing will probably end up looking better than MiMA base facade.

There's an attempt at detailing with some slight relief in the bricks, but it's nearly invisible.

must have been a sale on smoke coloured brick, and plans beat to death with an ugly stick?!
looks exactly like the crap the port is also tossing up right across the street from the javits
and Hudson yards as well - had these squats been proposed for any other neighborhood ...

My expectations were correct. Amazingly, this vent structure compliments MiMa's tower much better than MiMa's atrocious podium.

I do, however, see much potential for commercial signage and ads. This is one of the few places in Manhattan that would benefit from such a move. It would actually add a touch of character to the blank walls and would be exposed to millions of commuters and travelers among the eternally traffic-jammed approaches to the Lincoln Tunnel. Besides, these would be a stone's throw from 8th Avenue's existing signage (almost contextual), and almost in keeping with the ads over the Tunnel approach itself; some much-needed revenue for the MTA and no significant, or even engaging, streetscapes hurt in the process.

This isn't wildly different from the vent towers planned for 2nd ave, except those will have 1st floor retail to match with the neighborhood. Maybe this will be getting ground floor condom machines for the locals?
