Thread: Tower 31 - 9 West 31st street - 41 stories - by Costas Kondylis

This one makes me gag. If they set out to make an unattractive design then they obviously hit it on the head.
That area of Broadway has some on the best beaux arts style of buildings leading down to madison sq. Unfortunately this is one area of the city which has yet to be cleaned up with all the crap vendors and stores there. These buildings need to be polished and restored. With the new developments going on over on 6th ave. I hope its spills over to Broadway and cleans up the area.

They've put in a nice little sidewalk cafe/restaurant on the ground floor. I like it...

The beautiful Herald Square Hotel next door...

Meanwhile, something's brewing a few doors down on the south side of 31 St.

They tore down a couple of 6-story buildings, one of which was very ornate and beautiful () for what is likely, a 19-story ugly pile of $#!@ from Nobutaka Ashihara (yes the same one that brought us the piece of garbage Marriott Inn/Bryant Park Tower). DOB permit here.

Keep your hopes up, perhaps something better will rise on this lot.

Not in that spot, by that hackitect, in this city, at this time. There is no hope.

A set I'd title as, "Lovely Occasion Atop Hideous Building."

Dinner under the stars, the skyline, and a giant NOW RENTING sign.

That mechanical bulkhead serves as such a lovely backdrop.

Perhaps they can have their wedding reception atop the Eventi.

and renew their vows atop the Belvedere...

    Here's the entire set.
