The room I visited was a double. I thought the hallways were a generous size as well.

Endangered Hotel Penn Nets Nearly $38 M. in '07

    byChris Shott | April 8, 2008

    HotelPenn.com
    "World's Most Popular Hotel"

With Merrill Lynch staying put downtown and plans to redevelop Penn Station in flux, Vornado CEO Steven Roth may not know what to do with the Hotel Pennsylvania--a building the company once described as "a placeholder, sort of like a parking lot."

In the meantime, the historic lodge continues to make his company some big bucks--netting roughly $37.9 million last year.
That's $10.6 million more than in 2006, according to the company's latest filing with federal regulators, which further added, "This property continues to trend higher in 2008."

With revenues on the rise, does it still make sense to raze it?

I agree. The same holds true for the Roosevelt, the Lord and Taylor annex, and the 57th Street townhouses adjacent to the Drake, all of which greedy developers sought to raze before the downturn. Our incompetent politicians and interest groups who can't pass congestion pricing and try to kill great projects like MoMo Tower must act.

With the downturn this building is safe for a few years. Roosevelt is safe since Bear Stearns collapse, Lord and Taylor Annex is not going forward anytime soon either as landmarks has gotten invovled with that project.

Now is the time to put in landmark requests, though. When the economy was go-go-go-hot-hot-hot, Tierney (and Bloomberg, by extension) weren't going to do a thing to stand in the way. Now that things have slowed, they won't be stopping anything with a landmark designation, so they can afford to give it its due consideration. Let's get these buildings landmarked now before they are endangered again.

    Thumbs up

I'll make sure to redo the Landmark designation request that I did for the Roosevelt Hotel.

^ Put in one for Macy's Herald Square building, too. Amazingly, it's not landmarked yet!
