Stamford Update from wtby4000 on City Data

The old NewAlliance Bank building at 550 Summer Street appears to have gotten a new facade.

    Before:

    After

Construction on new apartment building at 545 Bedford Street on the site of an old funeral parlour.

The 999 Bedford Street building, which has stood empty for more than two years, is now being cleaned and/or renovated.

This block bounded by Washington Blvd, Atlantic St, Walter Wheeler Drive and Harbor Point Road is being dug up, probably for new development.

New CVS being built next to Fairway on Canal St.

New townhouses going up just east of 82 Ludlow St.

Stamford has the what it tskes to be a major US city.
    1 Large Downtown
    2.Rail access on NE corridor
    3 Ocean branch (LI Sound)
4 plenty of land in downtown.
5 MASSIVE "BIG BOX" MUNICIPAL BOUNDARIES.
6 Stamford could easily build dense in downtown and it's port areas and easily rack at least 300 thousand residents.

The Density is all over the place...they need to work on making the Downtown Pedestrian friendly...you get 15secs to cross 6 to 8 lanes of traffic... There main train station suffers from overcrowding and a sloppy layout...
