Walked by the Atelier tonight. The whole building is lit it bright blue light from spots sett in the base. It looks VERY blue and VERY Miami (or at least Hotel-ish - or is that Hellish). Anyway, not sure if it is just a sales gimmick or permanent. I couldn't imagine living in a building with blue light pouring into my windoes at night. It is very striking, but, if it long term, it is going to strike out.

Walking past the Atelier during daylight the other day I was somewhat disappointed by how its turning out. The contrast between the central "silver" tower and the "black" end-tops / horizontal bands seemed less pronounced than has been presented -- and thereby the entire building seems to seem more monolithic than I'd expected.

Perhaps this will change when the facade is completed

I took these on sunday. Chips ahoy should seriously consider relocating to the west side with all this cookie cutter crap going up.

"Mr. Kondylis drew inspiration for the building design from the great ocean liners docked along Manhattan’s West Side. He was quoted as stating that the "Atelier recalls the bow of a great ship interpreted all in glass with wrap-around balconies and expansive views."

i am really interested to see how they are going to put up the rest of this block. maybe a massive tower on 43/11? far less than half the sq ft of this development is in the atelier. these building are going to be right on top of eachother.

Default anyone know what the facade material is?

It looks like the same metal cladding Kondylis is using at 200 Chambers, in fact, it looks like the uptown brother.

Disappointing is you ask me. This site had a lot of potential for something tall, but most of all, better. 200,000 sq feet of retail, however, which will be vital to this area.

Kondylis' claim that the Atelier design was inspired by the bow of an ocean liner is completely lost on me ...

Not that I'm looking for something literal, but how he got from that to this is a mystery.

Maybe the bow of a ship as it heads down after hitting and iceberg aka Titanic.
