There's hardly any retail on that stretch and the only fast food place I can remember is Quiznos.
There's a lot of scaffolding, empty storefronts, and 2 vacant lots. At least 4 projects have stalled, so when the next boom comes around things will probably "improve."
On the west side of 5th (and a little south of the POT that Leyva has designed for the east side of 5th), there are three or four contiguous little buildings on which terrible 1960's facade were tacked on, thereby destroying what was there. One of them was sold and razed. I hope that a developer buys the others and tears them down. They look like mierda.

I'd rather have an empty hole that the POT that Chang the Wang plans for the site across from Gehry's Beekman tower.

From the renderings, it seems the crown will extend slightly outward over the footprint of the tower, getting wider as you go higher - should be interesting to watch how they build it.
Can anyone tell if the crown is composed of glass or stone?
