My worst two experiences riding the tram when I lived on RI are as follows:

1.) The one time it stopped for 20 minutes while I was over the middle of the east river. That was terrifying.
2.) The time some tourists were take photos of us with groceries on the tram like we were some kind of animals at the zoo. One of them actually said, "Hey look honey, people actually have to ride this to get errands done."

Getting to watch 20 flat screen TVs all at once in the windows of the first tower in Sutton Place ranks as one of the top nifty experiences.

One can actually see a pane of glass already up in Tectonic's photo:

Here's an update from NY YIMBY

    http://www.newyorkyimby.com/2013/04/...ton-place.html

Tourists passing by on the RI Tramway probably think this is a remnant of the Lehman crisis.

    NY YIMBY said:

"Facade installation should begin shortly, as the superstructure reached its final floor a few weeks ago. What is causing the hold-up remains to be seen, but as long as the facade is not horrible, the tower will be simple residential filler."

Not sure why "should" is italicized. It's all pure speculation. There is probably some internal dissonance at Solow that is preventing this from going forward. This is a huge embarrassment for the developer.

Solow and "embarassment' are longtime companions...

Based on the timing, wouldn't MIMA be a clone of Sutton Place? Similarly, MIMA has some strange things going on at the base (and that nice section of lighter glass on it) that this definitely lacks.

technicalities...they're both big, black glass, and boring.
(that lighter shade of glass on MIMA is not nice either)

    2001 is long gone...

IMO this is a much classier, more balanced design than MiMA.
