Default 2nd Avenue around 93rd Street - is this is a good area?

I am found an apartment in the area of 2nd Avenue and 93rd Street. This neighborhood used be OK at best. It seems to be getting much better now.

Is this a safe neighborhood (is it safe to walk around at night)? I saw a couple of public housing projects on 1st Ave. Should I be concerned?
Are there any good pre-K and elementary schools in the area?I don't have kids yet, but would like to know for the future.

Maybe someone who lives in the area can weigh in.

    Thanks!

The dangerous criminal, Christian Slater, is known to lurk in the area, begging for Cialis and groping the ladies.

    He's a regular at the brother jimmy's on 93rd and 3rd....

Seriously though, it's safe over there. I have a good friend who lives on 94th and 3rd, and I've never been afraid visiting her at any hour of the night. Just keep in mind that anything that you'd want to do is south of there, not north. Also keep in mind that in about a year and a half (hopefully), the road is going to be torn up around there for the first phase of the T train (2nd avenue subway).

BIG DIG ON 2ND AVE. SUBWAY SET FOR '08

September 26, 2006 -- Digging for the long-planned Second Avenue Subway will finally start in 2008...Phase 1 of the project calls for the construction of stations at East 96th, 86th, and 72nd streets, and a connection to existing tracks at 63rd Street. A giant hole will be dug between 92nd and 95th streets to allow the tunnel-boring machine to launch under ground...

I think our whole building (as well as others on 2nd Avenue) will be shaken and stirred

    Watch your buttocks...

"On May 31, 2005, Slater was arrested around 1:50 a.m. in Manhattan's Upper East Side, near 93rd Street and Third Avenue, after a woman told police that a man had grabbed her buttocks. She identified Slater as the man. Slater was arrested and charged with third-degree sexual abuse. The following July 14, prosecutors offered Slater a plea bargain but he refused it insisting the charges were false. On September 19, Slater agreed to an Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal, whereby the case is adjourned for six months, and if during that time, he remains out of trouble, the charges are dismissed."

I used to live here and I can tell you it was a very safe neighborhood. The line is 96th Street. You will be fine here, guaranteed.

Brother Jimmies is one of my favourite haunts also. Check out Slater in the mens room - hey every man has his moment.

Although didnt that happen at the BJ around 73rd?

93rd and 2nd - you are a little distant to the nearest Barnes and Noble coffee but keep that taser handy and you'll feel great!
