Wasn't the stadium cancelled/redesigned due to the extremely high cost of the steel?

Yeah it does, now that you've mentioned it. I think the Pearl of the Orient tower (2 large bulbs in the background) is what makes it look that way.

Besides the "Industrial Light & Magic" coloration ( http://www.ilm.com/ ), I think it's because almost all of the buildings are tapering towers with spires, and are not a collection of box-upon-box.

Just look at that ground floor.

No need to worry about truck bombers here.

That whole district is a depressing scene.

All the mistakes of Twentieth Century planning theory drearily repeated. No lessons learned. 'Tain't fit for man nor beast.

    Phooey.

    A preview of the FT?
Admittedly, judging from the renderings, the finished product for SWFC's base will come out looking a lot better than our fortress FT.

I can tell you they are building the stadium with only a litle less steel but the design pretty much stayed the same.

Great that they're building this beauty ...

Talk about some crazy floorplates ( IAC freaks check this \/ out)!

And still loads of steel ...

China is on the roll. It's pretty amazing how quickly they are developing and how much monoey is pouring in

Christ Shanghai is weird. Massive skyscrapers separated by vast boulevards from 3-story red-tile roof neighbourhoods...

That could be taken as either the absence or the presence of free market forces.

Which is it, do you think?
