Or maybe the city planning authorities have played a bit too much Sim City, and merely left the streets as incompatible zoning boundaries...

Default Question about Photo on Post #32

Anybody know the name of that art-deco structure front and center of the photo shown on Post 32?

I Think in time they will dissappear but for now there is no rush because there is much empty space still in de Pudong area that needs to be filled.

More revealing photos from xitek.com. In the photo below you can see the slant starting to take shape.

Wow, does the bottom portion of this building look like a complete ripoff of 7WTC, or what?

The Jin Mao Tower. Designed by SOM, finished about 7 years ago, I think. It houses the highest hotel in the world.

They're not big on streetwall in Shanghai...are they?

It looks like 60's planning land complete with huge boulevards.

I think someone may have commented on the boulevards a little while ago.

No, they're definitely not (big on the streetwall). Same goes for Dubai. It's ironic that the biggest and often best examples of urban architecture - the skyscraper - are today being built in places that don't seem very urban at all. Everyone's getting around in the car, and parking it in the lower-levels of the skyscraper. It's the vertical shopping mall.
