Isn't there an already-built tower somewhere that looks almost exactly like this one?

I belive the hole was removed due to objections by the Chinese government that it too closely resembled the Japanese flag. No joke.

Also, if this tower reminds you of another, don't be fooled, this tower had its groundbreaking in 1997 but due to the Asian Economic crisis that soon followed, it was suspended and now has been under construction intermittently for a number of years.

Looked a lot better with the hole.

Oh, okay. Yeah, I was thinking about the previous version of this tower with the hole. I thought it was already built. Thanks for the info.

Does anyone know if these buildings are connected to Greater Shanghai by subway?

This map from site for the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel ( http://www.shangri-la.com/shanghai/p.../en/index.aspx ) seems to put the Shanghai WFC in the vicinity of the Lu Jia Zui Station ...

The #2 green line runs through Pudong. All of the stations east of the river are in Pudong. If I remember correctly the Jin Mao Tower is somewhere between Lu Jia Zui and Dong Chang Road stations, so Shanghai WFC would be too. However, it seemed to me that most people travel by car in this new part of Shanghai.
