I really lost my fight....I am not even trying to save THE DRAKE, WEST 56TH AND WEST 55TH STREET TOWNhouses.

Nobody gives a shit about midtown.

    sad.

So is that charming little building next to Shelly's coming down, too?

There's no construction shed in front of it, so there might still be hope for it.

Per the articles on the previous page, that 6-story building was also part of the purchase, so it seems it would be part of the development...

At the rate the demo is going on the Shelly's site we should probably see by the end of this week if the 6-story neighbor is destined for the proverbial wrecking ball as well ...

    HILTON BOOSTS MET TOWER

    December 5, 2006

HILTON Hotels Corp.'s Grand Vacations Club timeshare project at 102-104 W. 57th St. has turned out to be a boon to Metropolitan Tower, the 78-story, black glass office/condo at 142 W. 57th.

Hilton has signed a lease for 15,590 square feet of ground-floor retail space and second floor display space there to house the sales and marketing center for its new hotel on the same block.

Metropolitan Tower's office and retail component is owned by L&L Holding Co., founded by David W. Levinson and Robert Lapidus. Levinson said the Hilton deal is the first step in a repositioning of the building's commercial portion.

The ground-floor space was previously Body Shop. Levinson said it will become "an attractive reception area" for the second-floor Hilton space, which will have model rooms on display.

The tower has 245,000 square feet of offices, of which 130,000 remain available following a move-out by Ann Taylor last year.

Levinson said that was "the impetus to upgrade Metropolitan Tower in a dramatic fashion and reposition it for either a prestigious single tenant or multi-floor users."

L&L is spending $1 million on a new lobby, entrance canopy and other features, he said.

    Groundbreaking for Hilton Club
    June 29, 4:27 pm

A rendering of the building Hilton Grand Vacations Co. broke ground for what will be the first ever new-construction residential time-share in New York City. The West 57th Street by Hilton Club will rise 28 stories between Sixth and Seventh avenues. The property's 161 units will be available for one-week increments that cost between $41,000 and $100,000. more [CPN]

Have to see more but from what I can tell so far, it is quite disappointing.

Especially the lower portion, which from this angle, looks like a huge air vent.

Wow, what a humdrum building. For a building housing $41,000 to $100,000 a week units, I was expecting a little more in the way of architecture.

It's nothing special, but at least it's not a box.

    Limestone would have been nice.

DOB "New Building" Permit (Issued 5.24.07) for this address (102-106 W. 57th) shows the Architect as:

Theodore Hammer / HWL International (RA)

Is there an affiliation between that HWL ^^^ with this one ...

    Hutchison Whampoa Limited (HWL)

I came across this rendering for 110th W 57 on skyscrapercity. Is this an older rendering of the Hilton project, or is it a different project?

It's a dead project that was proposed for the Director's Guild of America next door.
