Don't have a clue when that will be shutting down.

NYC DOF shows an "Assignment of Lease & Rents" dated 12.17.09 for all four lots on this site -- and it includes the empty Extell lot across W58th at 225 W 58th.

I would be perfectly happy living in this townhouse.

It's full of rat poison now

And imagine the clamor inside if that one were saved and the new Extell went up all around it.

Rat poison? That's even better, it'll clean the place up.

Construction noise? Only temporary. Afterwards, I'll have a Midtown townhouse all to myself.

    Lofter,

I've never noticed these boxes previously. Are they always painted on a building that will be razed, and do they simply indicate that rat poison has been put in the building?

I thought they told the fire department that the building is without occupants.

Yep, Derek2k3, as you noted those boxes are actually FDNY markers. My bad. The sign posted on the door of the townhouse gives notification of poison inside.

Somewhat odd that FDNY marked up the High School since it doesn't have a Demo App filed at DOB, while the townhouse does. I'd think that FDNY would make the occupancy check based on DOB filings.

    Default Supermarket

According to a senior employee, the supermarket at 225 West 57th Street has something like 15-20 years left on its lease with no demolition clause. I wonder what Extell plans to do.

I guess Extell will have to buy them out, as they did with the Broadway Dance Studio. Quite possibly, though, the employee is wrong.

The best thing would be to work out an agreement with the supermarket to move out temporarily for the construction and then move them back into the retail space in the new building.

Unfortunately, I don't think that would happen. We'll just get a new bank branch in the new building.

Doesn't seem that this has been posted here:

DEMO Permit posted at 217-223 W 57 (old Hard Rock site and eastern portion of the Extell package); dated 11.17.09.

No Demo filings as of yet for the other parts of the parcel (225 W 57 and the two lots along W 58).

This is good news! I really hope that those eyesores are razed soon.

Are these the same green X's that recently were painted onto the old Landmark HS?

I wish this was done with many of the wonderful neighborhood businesses we have lost. Screw a development if it actually makes neighborhood life poorer.
