    Default Recommendation and thanks

    Universal...

Thanks for the excellent update about the community board meeting!

    All-

Can anyone recommend an electrician for a small job? The walk-in closet in our master bedroom was really very well thoughtout - a friend thought that we had had it customized! HOWEVER, we really wish that it had an electrical outlet and would like to add one.

    Default California Closet vs Diamonte

Hi everyone, thanks for the really useful posts on how to do a walkthrough and make a punch list. It is really useful. I plan to move in first weeks of july, and looking forward to being your future neighbor on 10!

Does anyone have any opinions on the best closeting company equivalent to California closet (but not so expensive) and home automation? Please let me know!

how about good alternative companies for a/v/home automation setup and/or closeting?

    Thanks,

    Linus

    Default Amenities

Many more amenities have just become available to the lucky residents of the Avery. There is new furniture in the lobby, a nice couch, end tables and lamps. The lounge area and library are open. There is an awesome LG flatscreen TV in the lounge. Hey, Life is Good at the Avery, after all. The outdoor terrace is also open. Downstairs the gym has been open for a while now, but I still only see a few people in there (hey, Pete). There is a pool table in the pool room now (sorry, not for swimming and no spa like the Rushmore next door). The screening room could use a screen, but why get hung up on details? Enjoy.

    Default Window Treatment

Hello, my name is Jennifer. We will move in end of June and are looking to install window treatment. Does anyone have advice as to what type to install: honey comb, roller shades or just vertical blinds? Diamant recommends roller shades. But they may not block 100%, which shows some for us facing north (120 Building). Sillouette is on the expensive side to us but consider making the investment.

Anyone compared Diamant's price against the window shops in the neighborhood for instance Janovic on Broadway and Metropolitan Window Fashion on Amsterdam?

I'd love to hear your opinion and experience. Thanks a lot!

    Default Hotwire Upgrades

Hotwire is upgrading the cable service. It starts with a new remote control that is much easier to use. DVR function now lets you record 2 shows at once. Per-per-view channels and more HD channels on the way. If you have a TV with 1080p, the picture quality is stunning.

    Smile Diamant Scuttlebutt

Most unit owner experiences with Diamant(e) have been positive as far as we know. Pricing is fair - remember to ask about 5% discount for multiple items/services.

At first, I was only going to do shades since the apartments don't come with them and my unit (N line) gets flooded with light in the afternoon. Diamant contracted with Gavin Sword, who installed automated shades for us. Their innovative, sleek, modern design, quiet operation and remote capability provides tremendous value for the price (not cheap but worth every penny). Also, I can't describe (other than to say how awesome it is to see) the effect of raising or lowering all of the shades in the living, dining and kitchen at the touch of a button.

While I was at Diamant , Oksana told me that they do custom closets also. I was already shopping around for custom closets, so I had several quotes handy, and was surprised that Diamant beat both the quotes for wood and melamine closets. I ended up using Melamine (which was so much cheaper), and Diamant installed closets for both bedrooms. They look great, although there was an issue with the MBR closet. Cara (from Diamant) came up with the designer and they promised to fix it on Wednesday. I would recommend getting custom closets installed, as it isn't really that expensive, but makes the closets so much more space-efficient.

I also decided at the last minute to use Diamant to install a custom soffit with recessed lighting and sconces in the MBR. Since the bedrooms don't come with overhead lights, I originally shopped around for lamps, and found that the ones I wanted were more than a thousand each. So for slightly more (and not that much more), I had (Milton) Diamant install a soffit right over the bed. His crew did all of the work in 3 days! It looks like it came with the unit, and I am thinking of installing another one in the kid's room.

I was going to have Diamant paint the apartment, but there wasn't enough time to pick out the colors prior to our move. We'll do the painting in the summer, and live with the flat white color for now. Also, I plan on using Diamant to install a custom desk and cabinets in the MBR, and I'll post on how that turns out.

Overall, I am very impressed with Diamant and recommend them highly. Even though each of my small projects were very important to me, had I gone with separate contracters, each of the small projects would never have received any attention. By using Diamant, you have dedicated managers (Cara and Oksana) who manage the various contractors for you, and since they are in the building and obviously want to work on other Avery apartments, they have an incentive to make us happy. Another nice touch was Cara called me on my moving day just to see if everything was okay, and if I needed anything else. Really a class act!

If any Avery residents are not sure whether or not to use Diamant, feel free to send me a private message with any questions.

    Back to unpacking!

    Default Shades

Hi Jennifer, Welcome. We used Diamont (Cara and Gavin (window specialist) . We used roller shades. We look south at the Rushmore .l Solar shade in living room, more opaquing in our bedroom, and complete blockout in teen sons bedroom .In the living room we had them install the remote with motor. It works great. I had breifly looked at Janovic, and actually had Gracious Home measure for luminettes , but then realized they really wouldn't work well with our windows. These shades are on a smaller roller and the windows clear them when opened. The valence gives it a very finished look. I think they are competitively priced and service and installation was excellent.

    Default I Hate Hotwire

I don't kjnow if its my shitty luck, but I can't stand this company. I stayed home waiting for them yesterday - no show. Rescheduled for today and I call Roy to make sure he is coming. They did not give him a ticket, he doesn't have time to fix my problem. Does anyone have any pull with another cable provider, to get them here. I pushing to cancel our service but I need my computer (and my wife won't let me cancel the cable). The only smart thing about the company is that they have the monoploy here, you have no choice. There sutomer service is an call answering center, and I think once you complain you are blacklisted.

I'm on 18 and have gotten my closing letter for July 14th.

Does anyone have any news on when Time Warner Cable will be available?

ckucic, to recap my efforts a few months ago, I spoke with TWC, who said that they were being held up by the building. I then spoke with Extell, who said that I needed to speak with the sales office. I then spoke with Michelle in the sales office, who said she would look into it and get back to me. At that point I simply got too busy with work and wedding planning to follow up. I will call the sales office again when they open up today and see what's going on. Hotwire has a terrible reputation, so I'm not surprised at your experience.

    Default Hotwire

A very good boy, thanks for the follow up. Congrats on the wedding. We signed our contract right after we got married. To follow up, this morning Roy ended up fixing everythin and appoligized. Roy is ok, the actual service is good, its just their customer service is frustrating when you have a problem. They are good at getting you service, just bad at mainting it.

On another note, I do love our building and think Extell has done an excellent job. I think you will be pleased when you move in soon. The building staff is exceptional. Our building is starting to feel like a community now. It was a little lonely in the beggining, it is nice that we have great neighbors (even with their kids) next door. This message board has been great and informative. I wish I new as much when I moved in.
