This transparent aerie was designed by Helena Arahuete and inspired by her mentor, John Lautner who apprenticed with Frank Lloyd Wright. The home rests on 160 acres at the pinnacle of one of the Twin Sisters, two of the higest peaks in the area. Far below are the rolling hills of the Napa Valley wine country.

From the home are 160-degree views of northern California. It sits on the seventh highest peak in the San Francisco Bay Area. On a clear day you can see the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, Mt. Tamalpais, the Napa Valley, Mount Diablo, the Sacramento Valley and the Sierra Madre Mountains.



The 3 bedroom, 13580+/- sq. ft. home takes full advantage of its setting, crowing the mountaintop with a glass and concrete hexagon. The main floor rises over the landscape with glass-enclosed rooms that in most cases offer views in all directions. Dramatic cantilevered decks encircle the structure. On the south-facing deck is the piece de resistance, a blue-tiled rectangular swimming pool that is suspended over the hillside without any visible means of support.



The area immediately surrounding the residence has been landscaped and features numerous stone retaining walls. The remaining area of the hilltop, except for the driveway, has been left in its natural state. Not far from the home is a helicopter landing pad.

Your summary is right out of "Parable of the Talents" by Octavia Butler(who just passed away). The setting was a futuristic, dysfunctional California where houses like the one above were equipped as armed fortresses. Great book.

Also, I had to crack up because it is so typical of us urbanists to think that way!
