    Default Ropeless Elevators

I was talking to a guy who works for Otis at the weekend and I asked him how come ropless elevators haven't taken off (!) and he said they are a non-issue. Hardly anyone knows what they are, there is little interest in them and no demand for them.

How can this be true? This tech can dramatically increase the available floor plate in a high rise and despite their possible higher energy usage seem economically ideal for tall buildings and "the next big thing" in enabling architecture but even googling them their is little out there yet they would transform the economics of a high rise.

Are their any developers or architects here who can give me some insight into why ropless eleavtors haven't been employed anywhere?
