To my mind there are two types of architectural design at present: contemporary and 'historical recreations' . I find classical /traditional architecture very appealing to the eye; preferably when the are of the true 'vintage' or 'antique' variety - the 'historical recreations, not so much...

Here are 10 guiding principals of 'contemporary design' that when well executed result in beautiful buildings - http://distinctbuild.ca/modern_archi...cteristics.php

The ad hoc application of traditional 'decorations' is all that can be done when building present day 'historical recreations' - and yes the often come off as looking a too " twee " or literally ahistorical.

This could easily be the worst building going up right now.

    It's very sad actually.

Look at the quality of the concrete workmanship here. It looks like something right out of Port-Au-Prince Haiti or Lagos Nigeria:

Whuat a DISGUSTING blank wall. Do architects realize that people can see this??? Its ****ing hideous and insult to anyone who has eyes. As bad as Kaufmann is none of his eyesores resulted in such shitty putrid quality. I do wonder if most architects have any pride sometimes..... This ****er sure doesn't. I want to walk up to the architects and say to them "Your work is Fegan HORRIBLE!!"

I'm actually surprised that this building has lot line windows. The assumption (I'm guessing) is that the building on the corner will come down and be replaced by something taller. Maybe they bought the air rights?

I was thinking the same thing. This is a future party wall.

Awful. That bottom part looks like a motel out of Harrison NJ.

What is that horrible brown and tan stripy thing on the right?

Oh god, I wish I hadn't looked. The Statue of Liberty is suffering a huge indignity .

That guy in the foreground is phoning home saying, "Holy sh*t, you wouldn't believe what I've just walked past".
