    Default Memorial Plaque

Jasonik has suggested the possibility of an etched granite plaque and forwarded me the info. I'll try contacting the company tomorrow (4.14) and report back.

    Meanwhile ...

My aim is to coordinate the various decisions necessary to make JB's Memorial Plaque a reality.

Using jasonik's graphic as a template I have submitted info to the design rep at International Bronze ("I/B") ( http://www.internationalbronze.net/ ) so that we can get an cost estimate for the manufacturing of a Plaque.

I'm hoping to hear back from I/B at the beginning of next week. When I do I'll send out an up-date. By that time hopefully the "text team" will have found some great JB quotes that could be used on the plaque.

    I'll keep you all posted.

I contacted the rep at Forever In Stone this morning and have forwarded to him the preliminary design info.

I'll keep you posted when I hear back.

Thanks Lofter1 - you are a one man show on this, right now. Will be be trying to determine if it cost more per word or letter?

I've been communicating directly with Jason on some of the details -- and both of us have been in touch with manufacturers in the effort to get estimates.

I decided not to flood the board with the nitty gritty, but will report back when we have something concrete (or bronze or granite).

I took the C Train up to Maggie's Garden today to get a look at what now exists.

I got there about 5:15 PM and the gate was locked so I couldn't get in (I'm curious to find out what access people have to the Garden -- or if it is locked on a regular basis).

The renovation of the Garden that took place last year accomplished a lot. As you can see on the "before / after" pics on the NYRP website: Some raised planting areas have been put in at the sides and in the center. Since that "after" picture was taken two or three more Magnolias have been planted -- with one beauty in the center raised area -- today they were all in full gorgeous bloom. That won't last long, so if you can I urge you to go and take look. There are also other plantings around the garden and some make-do kind of benches -- but planting annuals in the side raised beds (now just lush green gassy stuff) will be a big plus.

It seems from my first glance that the garden could use a couple of larger flowering trees towards the rear -- but I don't know what NYRP has in mind. (The website says that the garden is used for BBQ-ing so that open area in the back might be set up for that.)

The pergola looks as though it has a new vine (wysteria?).

Having now seen the Garden I have some specific questions about the plaque. We can discuss this at the pre-Meeting on Monday -- and then take our final questions to NYRP on Thursday.

I'm hoping to have word from the manufacturers on Monday as well.

    Lofter / Jasonik-

I would like to get a rendition of the project banner Jasonik created and replace the quote we have with the one BPC cited in the link thread. I have lined up printers who will create this as a banner to hang on the fence as we perform our project. I need to identify another person to create a WiredNewYork.com logo (EDWARD - PLEASE chime in here). We will have a second banner with the NYRP logo and our logo for the fence as well.

Please respond ASAP on the ability to do this and ETA. We will need to get this stuff to the printer by May 1st.

    GRAPHIC ARTISTS PLEASE IDENTFY YOURSELVES!

A recent report (March 2006) from NYU regarding the beneficial financial effects of Community Gardens:

The Effect of Community Gardens on Neighboring Property Values

    Gotham Gazette
    04/20/06

    http://www.gothamgazette.com/thisweek/reports.php

A study released by New York University shows that the opening of a community garden has a statistically significant positive impact on residential properties within 1000 feet of the garden, and that the impact increases over time.
