I'd hardly call 1 Financial Square architectural superiority. That's a piece of 80s schlock if I ever saw one.

It's been surrounded by scaffolding for years, it was never cleaned, it's in a dark and dingy corner just north of Hanover square. Yes, it's unfortunately dumpy. And while it's architecturally attractive, it has none of the street presence of other buildings in the area. There's no retail or anything in the base of the building except for the lobby to the rentals. The lobby has been restored, but the street around it's not friendly. I don't want the bottom of one of my favorite skyscrapers to be dumpy, but unfortunately it is.

So the model for all NYC everywhere is retail along every linear foot of streetwall.

I didn't say it was architecturally lacking, I said it was a dump. No one is claiming the Corn Exchange building in Harlem lacks architectural pedigree. That doesn't make it less of a dump. The converse is also true. Just because most of the holiday inns in koreatown are relatively clean in front does not make them architecturally great. Also generous of you to ignore me saying that I love this tower, but wish it was better cared for. Thanks for reminding me why I was taking a break from this forum.
