Yes. It allows the steel construction to proceed (within reason) regardless of delays in the concrete work.

I'll bet money that something similar is going on inside with the core as well. Although they won't have to actually remove the entire diagonal brace, just the parts that interfere with openings in the core walls.

A vertical space of drama and beauty is definitely a plus. Supposed to be very clear glass too, so I'm glad it's a part of this building... though the tower itself leaves me rather cold. I do like the tower on Lex and 53rd that it resembles.

The glass will be very unique. I just found out it will actually have a matte finish to it, not unlike a laptop screen. So it will have very diffuse reflections. Should be interesting.

This tower's effect is ruined by its location. It deserves to be on its own away from the dominating WTC3. Needs room to breath.

I also think the design is rather nice but needs to soar, not cower.

In my opinion, it would be lost on its own.

Janno Lieber, Silverstein’s president of WTC development, reported that Tower 4 construction is on target for its December 2013 opening.

Contractor Tishman Construction is now erecting one floor per week, and façade installation will start this spring.

The enormous lobby also is taking shape -- ready to stand at three times the size of the lobby of 7 WTC.

In addition, below-grade fit-out at 4 WTC is “well-advanced,” said Lieber, noting that extensive mechanical and plumbing systems are now in place.

    Not yet.

I've been noting progress for a couple of months - using the first columns to go up as day#1. So far:

    March 1
    March 19
    April 6

18 days or 9 per floor. Maybe it's the weather. If columns go up by April 20th, it'll be a floor per week.

Thanks for the tidbit. That should make it standout even more from the other towers, and other glass boxes in general.

A subtle curtain wall feature such as that 'matt finish' glass could turn out to be one of the most attractive features of this building: possibly making this the most 'outstanding' buildings of the bunch - despite its' modest, minimalist overall form.

I heard curtain wall panels will be arriving this week - starting soon on the second floor.
