Thread: WTC (Original) 3D Model

Here's a great render showing the detail of my new tower.

I added some simple lobby detail, however this time around I'm not too worried about the level of detail down there as I'm mostly looking at the external appearance of the model - hence the non-transparent windows. I simply placed a black box behind the columns and floors and extended it throughout the building. The material is reflective, which is helpful to give the illusion of tinted glass.

EDIT: Added the following to prevent post buildup.

I just added the revolving doors to the concourse from the lobby.

Although I do have another question, in the close-up renders of the tower you can see the joins in the cladding, and the vertical line that goes up each column. Did you use a texture to create that or did you do it in 3D?

    Thanks

Bumpmaps, I could have done it in 3D, but I didn't feel like it. If I wanted to, I could of course do that later.

I've been following this thread for months now, I just thought I'd finally register to thank you STR. Thank you for keeping the memory of this beautiful and complex structure alive. It is simply a breathtaking work of art, and you deserve great things for it. Well enough of my ass kissing.

    So once again, thank you.

Thanks. It's about time, too, my old towers were horrendous.

As some of you (like Lofter, STR and JC) will know, I have done a lot of different models since I first posted on this thread. These projects have all been different ways for me to test my skill, and build on that skill (look back at my first incarnation of the WTC, and then look at the most recent pics ).

Now I've started ANOTHER project in the midst of the new towers etc, although it sort of ties in with the new tower. I've decided to build the entire WTC concourse, and will probably focus mostly on this before continuing with the rest of the complex. I'm fascinated at how the Concourse was spaced out etc, and using STR's map I will accurately build the entire ground floor of the World Trade Center complex. I haven't done any renders, because there really isn't any point, as all I've got so far are a couple of columns.

    Pretty nifty, eh?

    Thanks for posting those STR!

STR i noticed the detailed concourse plans you gave us didn't have an outline for 3WTC (The Hotel).
Is there any other sets of plans with 3WTC on? If not, how did you work out the dimensions?

Thought i would post a render of my lobby so far:

The materials on the outside are no where near final, that was just a quick setup with colours.
I'm making my model in Sketchup Pro and rendering with Kerkythea.

I tell ya all, STR is an artist and a master .... I bow before thee. That last one almost looks like a picture from the real thing.

Too bad I can't get my hands on his model. *sniff*

Some test renders. I'm adjusting the textures and render settings.

The second one looks very close to being a real image! Good job
