I walked by the building today. It should be topped out pretty soon, it's top floor is currently well above the roofline of its neighbor to the right (south) in the rendering.
Ok so here is the new building that is going up on 300 East 79th street...

Ha, I didn't even know that it is that well ahead on its construction status. I actually never heard of this building before.
O'Hara is listed as the architect on the DOB site!

Oh, and guess who will be taking the retail space....
Not Chase.....not another Duane Reade.....nope, nope, nope....
....North Fork Bank!
Yay! Thank god! I think the nearest bank is a good 1 block walk West or East, so thank goodness this void in NYC banking has been filled.
How many shops were in those buildings it's replacing? Dear god...
Can somebody answer me why with the introduction of online banking there seems to be a growth in bank branches. I know in the last couple of years I've done more and more of my banking online and now I visit physical bank branches much less.
Can you get cash online? No. And in this city there are tons of places that don't take debit/credit or where it's inconvenient to do so.
The tower just replaces one building, a North Fork Bank Branch!
Actually it replaces three low rise buildings, one of which was a North Fork bank. There were two other midblock low-rise structures that were also demolished for the building. One of those buildings had a fantastic stationary store. I'm blanking on its name but it was very good.
That was Ropal Stationery. Another neighborhood loss. They're falling like leaves everywhere.
Still, some people on this forum are so shortsighted. They think the loss of all of these independent businesses is not worth our consideration. Hello pianoman![]()
Where'd you find the rendering krull? Is there a website?
