    Here's a photo after a dynamite explosion caused a cave in right above 23rd. St. Seven people died. A streetcar ran into the hole. You can see the Whole Foods building on the left, and the block above that shows the old buildings before it was all torn down for a parking lot, then an apt. building.

    On September 22, 1915, a dynamite blast caused the cave-in of Seventh Avenue between 23rd and 25th Street in Manhattan. The blast took place in a tunnel underneath the avenue that was part of the extension of the subway. A streetcar fell into the collapsing tunnel. At least 7 people died and nearly 100 were injured.
