    I probably wouldn't balk at it either, and that's the problem. People buy them anyway so they keep going up.

    Location, location, location - that's all I have to say. Too bad the architecture isn't up to those 3 keys of real estate.

    You're right, at least it's not ugly. *They could have designed it a lot worse. And, they could have designed it a lot better. I guess this is what you call "barely passing".

    No excuse. Considering some of the really nice buildings being built today, this is a scandal. Would any other city allow such a banal, flimsy looking thing built opposite it´s opera house? No matter what you think of Lincoln Center and Juliard, those buildings are real architecture and deserve better neighbors. Doesn´t this location call out for something super-deluxe....? A sleek glass&white Richard Mier or classical Robert Stern kind-of-something? Wouldn´t high prices hold at this location?

    (At least that monster with the brown vertical stripes next door looks sturdy).

    Question: what´s the deal with the air ducts under the windows? Why do some buildings have them and some don´t? Question of money? Looks nasty.

    Next question: what do you think the shelf-life of these ticky-tack residential towers will be? Do you think we might see some torn down one day, as we´ve seen with office buildings? It hasn´t happened yet, but someday....who knows?...

    ^ This looks suspiciously reminiscent of Kondylis' rendering for Barclay St. (main difference: the downtown building is taller -- 56 stories, rather than 30 stories uptown):

    I don't think these types of towers are ugly.....just unimaginative and after a while we accumulate a lot of them.

    But we've come a long way from the 50s/60s/70s, where every single building would just be brown or white brick sameness. Upper East Side.....
