Default 555 West 34th St - The Girasole - Proposed 1,000'+ Tower - by FX Fowle

Joseph Moinian is another West Side fan who is putting his money where his mouth is.

We hear Moinian contracted to buy yet another Verizon building on the east side of 11th Ave. opposite Javits.

This is one of the area's four super corners, where sources say he intends to construct a soaring, 1.5 million-foot mixed-use tower that will include retail, hotel, offices and residences.

The 47,000-foot site at 555 W. 34th St. is next door to his Infinity Court apartments.

David Noonan and Jimmy Kuhn of Newmark handled the brokerage, just as they did for Moinian's Verizon purchase on 11th Ave. between 42nd and 43rd Streets.

Moinian is working there on a design for another 1.5 million square footer, next to the Costas Kondylis-designed apartment building he bought as plans from Jules Demchik and which is currently rising skyward.

If you compare the site to the ESB, you can get an idea of the potential size of the building. The ESB has a site area of 83,860 square feet. The building itself is 102 floors and over 2 million square feet of commercial space.

Crude math gets anywhere from 57 to 77 stories for this new building.

The tower could also be thinner, and therefore squeeze the square footage upward. It all depends on the geometry of the building

1.5 MSF would probably be around 800 feet or a little less.

ESB is about the size of that site if you average out it's huge base and narrow tower. So this building would probably be 50 stories or so. I really doubt any westside tower will go above 900 feet after seeing what happened to the 80 story towers on the Con ed site. Let's just hope the NIMBY's don't ruin anything here like they did at the other one.

The NIMBY discussion has been split off this thread and moved to an existing NIMBY thread here:

I could just as credibly speculate that it WILL be over 900ft

Folks, you're all getting dazed and confused.
This thread covers the site on 34th St. not 42nd St.

I moved the posts there as well. Admittedly, the two sights are similar enough to be confusing.
